Patriotic Sing

Patriotic Sing

Twenty-two years ago, a revival of a Morgan Hill tradition began with the 1989 Patriotic Sing. The “Sing” features children of our community singing the songs of our country. This event, which is free to the public is a gift from our community’s children to Morgan Hill.

Around the turn of the century, children in Morgan Hill would gather together to sing Patriotic songs on the eve of the 4th of July. So, too, today, children gather at Britton School Gym to sing songs filled with patriotism. Our event begins at 6 p.m. on July 3rd.  In honor of “Those Who Serve”, our singers bring in donations for the “Blue Star Moms”.  At the Sing, our singers and members of our audience are also encouraged to write notes to our soldiers.

The Sing is but one event sponsored for children by Independence Day Incorporated.  In March, children in grades 2 through 6 are invited to write essays representing IDI’s theme.  Essays are judged and winners announced on May 1st.  This year’s theme is “An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July”.  Please take a minute to read last year’s winning essays on our website.

Children from the Sing ride on a float in our Parade the morning of July 4th.  You can also hear us singing Patriotic Songs at Fireworks.  Listen for us around 8:15 p.m. at Community Park.

Throughout the year, children from the Patriotic Sing perform at various community events, including our Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day Ceremonies.  We also sing at the Senior Center.

If you have a student who is entering 1st through 6th grade who would like to sing in our chorus, please be watching our website for rehearsal dates.  Rehearsals start the last week in May and continue once a week until July 3rd.  There is no cost involved in singing with us, and no auditions to complete.  Every child should have the opportunity to learn the songs of our country!

Your help is also appreciated, whether you are interested in sponsoring a portion of the Sing or volunteering to help with our events.  And, of course, please reserve Sunday, July 3rd at 6 p.m. to attend this year’s Patriotic Sing and celebrate “An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July.”
